Emiliano Schena

Emiliano Schena is an Associate Professor of Measurement and Biomedical Instrumentation. He works in the Measurements and Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory (MTMBiLAB), Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma.

He was born in Avellino, Italy, on the May 4th, 1981. He received the M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering (MSc) cum laude from the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, Italy in 2006 and the Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, in 2003.

His research interests are focused on the study of thermal treatment for cancer removal with particular attention to the monitoring of tissue temperature during the procedure, to the theoretical description of laser tissue interaction, to the experimental estimation of tissue optical properties, and to the use of gold nanoparticles for improving the selectivity of the treatment, on the fiber optic sensors (Magnetic Resonance-compatible) for monitoring of physiological parameters, as well as for the development of smart textile for respiratory monitoring.

He is the author of 100+ papers on scientific journals, international peer reviewed conferences and book chapters. He is the owner of three patents (2 italian, 1 european).

Emiliano Schena is the Chair of the Italy Chapter of the IEEE Sensor Council and the Counselor of Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma Student Branch.
